Data Architect

EPAM is looking for a Data Architect to join its Claims Technology organization and lead the design and governance of a canonical claims ontology for a global digital claims platform. This role is foundational for semantic interoperability, AI-driven decisioning, automation, data consistency, and intelligent decision-making across systems, regions, claims operations, enterprise information architecture, and engineering pipelines.

Design and evolve a canonical claims ontology, including entities, relationships, hierarchies, and business semantics.
Ensure ontology design aligns with industry standards and enterprise needs.
Translate complex artifacts such as payloads, schemas, API contracts, and legacy middleware into structured data models.
Define practical approaches for ontology deduction and semantic modeling.
Partner with engineers to define and build GenAI extraction pipelines for complex legacy artifacts.
Support AI-driven decisioning by enabling structured context for LLMs.
Improve recommendation accuracy and automation outcomes through semantic alignment.
Enable consistent data interpretation across systems and regions.
Ensure the semantic layer for FNOL flows aligns with broader enterprise ontology and information architecture standards.
Establish and govern controlled vocabularies, semantic consistency, and regional variations.
Help define the operating model for ontology maintenance and lifecycle management.
Support governance processes for ontology changes, business approvals, versioning, and semantic boundaries.
Collaborate with domain experts, architects, and engineering teams to translate business concepts into structured semantic models.

10+ years of experience in data architecture or related roles.
Understanding of insurance claims or financial services domains.
Knowledge of data structures, workflows, and regulatory considerations.
Background in ontology modeling, knowledge graphs, or metadata frameworks.
Ability to translate business meaning into structured data models.
Ability to interpret complex technical artifacts such as JSON payloads, API contracts, and legacy middleware mappings.
Strong proficiency in conceptual and logical data modeling.
Strong knowledge of data architecture and enterprise data governance practices.
English fluency at B2+/C1 level for effective communication.
Knowledge of LLM usage for metadata extraction, semantic mapping, context modeling, and document parsing is a plus.
Familiarity with ACORD-style structures or canonical payloads used in major insurance claims platforms is a plus.
